Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at University of Pretoria (South Africa) — 2025/2026 Applications Open

The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program (MCFSP) at the University of Pretoria offers full scholarships to academically talented African students who face financial hardships, including refugees, displaced youth, and students with disabilities. This program fully funds undergraduate and postgraduate studies, covering tuition, accommodation, living expenses, books, travel, and medical insurance. It also provides leadership development and community service opportunities to prepare graduates for impactful roles in Africa’s future.

What the Scholarship Covers

✔ Full tuition fees for your chosen degree
✔ Accommodation and meals at UP residences
✔ Textbooks and study materials
✔ Monthly living stipend
✔ Transport costs (where needed)
✔ Medical insurance
✔ Travel support for flights to and from home country
✔ Leadership and personal development programs

Who Can Apply

You are eligible if you:

• Are a citizen of an African country
• Have a minimum 70% GPA or equivalent academic achievement
• Come from a disadvantaged background (including refugees, displaced persons, or individuals with disabilities)
• Are applying for your first year of undergraduate or postgraduate study (no previous degree at the same level)
• Plan to study full-time and live in UP residences
• Have not received any other scholarship (except UP achievement awards)

Programs Supported

The scholarship supports full-time studies in specific faculties:

• Natural and Agricultural Sciences
• Economic and Management Sciences
• Humanities
• Engineering and the Built Environment
• Theology
• Law (postgraduate level only for students from SADC countries)

How to Apply

1. Apply for admission to the University of Pretoria:
• Undergraduate: Apply by 30 June 2025
• Postgraduate: Apply by 30 June 2024
2. Download and complete the Mastercard Foundation Scholarship Application Form (different forms for undergraduate and postgraduate students).
3. Prepare your documents (combine them into one PDF):
• UP admission letter (if available)
• Academic transcripts
• Passport or ID copy
• Proof of income (salary slips, bank statements, affidavits)
• Other personal documents (birth certificates, death certificates, disability documents, refugee permits, if applicable)
4. Send your application to: mcfsp@up.ac.za
5. Apply for student residence at UP as part of your application process.

Key Reminders

• Only students who are admitted to UP will be considered.
• Providing false information will lead to automatic disqualification.
• Priority is given to students who would otherwise not afford university education.
