Why the University of Rwanda?

The University of Rwanda is among Africaโ€™s most accessible public universities, and through its partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, it's offering one of the continentโ€™s most inclusive scholarship programs. Running from 2021 to 2031, this initiative targets 1,400 talented young Africans, especially women in STEM, youth with disabilities, and those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Scholarship Benefits

Selected scholars will receive comprehensive financial and academic support, including:

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a Rwandan citizen (for national quota) or an African citizen, refugee, or displaced youth

  • Be 28 years old or younger (up to 30 for those with verified hardships)

  • Be academically qualified and admitted to an eligible UR program

  • Have already applied to UR and obtained a UR Reference Number

  • Show leadership potential and a commitment to community engagement

  • Refugees must provide UNHCR proof, and persons with disabilities must provide proof from NCPD or a recognized institution



Fields of Study

Applicants must choose one of the undergraduate programs offered by the University of Rwanda across the following colleges:

  • ๐Ÿ“˜ College of Science and Technology

  • ๐Ÿฉบ College of Medicine and Health Sciences

  • ๐ŸŒพ College of Agriculture, Forestry and Food Sciences

  • ๐Ÿ’ผ College of Business and Economics

  • ๐ŸŽ“ College of Education

  • ๐ŸŽญ College of Arts and Social Sciences

  • ๐Ÿ„ College of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences

Campuses include: Nyarugenge, Huye, Rukara, Busogo, and Nyagatare


Required Documents

Before applying, prepare the following:


  • Admission reference number from UR

  • Academic transcripts & certificates

  • National ID or refugee/disability proof (if applicable)

  • Evidence of community engagement or leadership

  • All documents must be PDF format, under 250KB, and correctly named
