students who are resident citizens of member states of the African Union or
African Commonwealth countries. This initiative aims to provide an opportunity
for students to pursue higher education in Mauritius, foster academic
excellence, and promote regional integration within Africa. The scholarship
program is designed to support individuals with a strong academic track record,
a commitment to their community, and the potential to contribute to developing
their home countries.
These scholarships offer an excellent opportunity for students to study in a

SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS:
The Government of Mauritius scholarship offers
several benefits for successful applicants, including:
1. Tuition Fees: The scholarship covers the cost of tuition
fees for full-time on-campus study at a public Higher Education Institution in
Mauritius.
2. Living Expenses: The scholarship provides a contribution
toward living expenses to help cover costs like accommodation, food, and other daily
needs while studying in Mauritius.
3. Return Airfare: The scholarship covers return airfare for
travel to and from Mauritius by the most economical route. This includes travel
from the student's home country at the start of the studies and back to their
home country after completing their studies.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
The eligibility Criteria also depends on the level of study
you are applying for,
UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMS:
1. Nationality:
Applicants must be resident citizens of African Union member
states or African Commonwealth countries. Mauritian nationals are not eligible
for this scheme.
2. Age Limit:
Applicants must be over 18 years of age and should not have
reached their 26th birthday by 1st January 2026.
3. Language Proficiency:
If the language of instruction in the applicant's qualifying
examination was not English, a valid English proficiency test score is
required. Acceptable scores include:
• TOEFL: Minimum 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or
79 (internet-based).
• IELTS: Minimum 5.5 score.
Alternatively, an acceptable proof of English language
proficiency can be provided. Selected candidates will also be required to
participate in a virtual verbal interaction before the scholarship is awarded.
4. Exclusion for Self-financing Students in Mauritius:
Self-financing African students currently studying in
Mauritius are not eligible to apply for the same level of program under this
Scholarship Scheme.
5. Program Exclusions:
Scholarships will not be awarded for:
• Top-up degree programs
• Foundation programs
• Part-time courses
• Distance education programs
• Mixed/blended modes (combination of distance learning and
on-campus learning)
For detailed information on required qualifications,
GRADUATE PROGRAMS:
1. Nationality:
Applicants must be resident citizens of African Union member
states or African Commonwealth countries. Mauritian nationals are not eligible
for this scheme.
2. Age Limit:
Applicants must not have reached 40 years of age by 1st
January 2026.
3. Required Qualifications:
• For PhD Program: Direct entry is allowed provided
applicants meet the specific requirements (outlined in Section 1.6) of the
respective Higher Education Institution.
• For MPhil/PhD Program: A recognized undergraduate degree
with at least an upper second-class degree (or CPA/GPA greater than 60%),
preferably accompanied by a Master's degree, and meeting the specific
requirements (outlined in Section 1.6) of the Higher Education Institution.
• For MPhil Program: A recognized undergraduate degree with
at least an upper second-class degree (or CPA/GPA greater than 60%), meeting
the specific requirements (outlined in Section 1.6) of the Higher Education
Institution.
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS:
The required documents are different for each level of study,
but the general Requirements are:
• Application letter
• National ID or valid passport
• Curriculum Vitae
• passport picture
• Completed application form
• Certified copy of Birth certificate
• Certified copy of bio-data page of passport
• Certified copies of educational certificates and transcripts
• Copy of letter of condition offer by a public higher
education Institution (HEI) in the MAURITIUS (if available at the time of application)
• Medication certificate to be duly filled and signed by a
registered medical practitioner in Section 6 of the application form.
• Study/Research plan for candidate's option for a Masters
and Doctoral studies
• Supporting statement from a named supervisor from a
university in Mauritius for PhD Candidates
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
The Application Process is different depending on the level
of study you are applying for:
1. FOR UNDERGRADUATES:
1.1 Fill and submit the Application This form must be filled in electronically,
printed, and then signed.
1.2 Application to Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)
1.2.1 All applicants must have already applied for at least
one full-time on-campus program at a public HEI of their choice (Through this on Point 8). This application must be made
as soon as the HEIs have opened their application windows on their respective
websites.
An applicant may either:
(a) obtain a conditional offer (letter of admission) from
their chosen Mauritian public HEI and submit this along with the scholarship
application: OR
(b) An applicant must submit a receipt of payment of the
application fee from their chosen Mauritian public HEI along with the
scholarship application.
Note: The application fee
shall be refunded to successful applicants
1.2.2 Applicants must submit the completed Mauritius-Africa
Scholarship Application Form and all required documents to their respective
Nominating Agencies. For Rwandan students, use this for the nomination Agency. For others, check
them out at the Scholarship link given at the bottom.
This should be done by a deadline to be determined by the
Nominating Agency and communicated to prospective applicants.
1.2.3 Candidates must also submit the fully completed
Application Form and certified copies of the required documents as part of
their application to their local Nominating Agency:
NOTE:
1) The Mauritian authorities will check the authenticity of
all educational certificates, and applicants must produce original certificates
upon arrival in Mauritius.
2) Non-submission of the documents mentioned above or
incorrect or incomplete filling of the application form will result in
disqualification of the applicant;
3) The applicant must sign the Declaration in Section 4 of
the Application Form;
4) Certified copies of academic certificates and transcripts,
if not in French or English, must be submitted along with a certified translation
in one of these two languages;
5) In Section 3 of the Application Form, applicants should
indicate the title of their proposed research and the institution(s) where they
have secured a seat or for which they have applied for enrolment
6) All applications must be made exclusively through the
Nominating Agency in the applicant's country of citizenship, along with the
necessary supporting documents.
1.3 Application Enquiries
Applicants are advised to contact the Nominating Agency in
their country of citizenship, or in the absence thereof, the respective
Ministry of Education, to obtain details on the application procedure to be
followed when submitting applications.

APPLICATION DEADLINE:
The admission application deadlines are different for each
University, so you have to check them out on the University official websites.
The final Scholarship application deadline for electronic
submission is on 23rd April 2025 and for Submitting hard copies is on 30 April
2025
