University MEXT Scholarship for international students seeking graduate
degrees.
The Saitama University Scholarship covers full coverage of application,
admission, and tuition fees, a monthly stipend of 145,000 yen, with an
additional regional allowance of 3,000 yen, and round-trip airfare for selected
candidates.

Applications have commenced for the 2025 Saitama University MEXT
Scholarship.
As a part of the International Graduate Program at Saitama University, the
Graduate School of Science and Engineering offers highly qualified students the
opportunity to pursue doctoral studies and research in the field of Engineering
leading to a Doctor of Philosophy/ Engineering / Science.
The program starts in either April or October and requires a standard
three-year residency for the completion of a doctoral degree. Class
instruction, research supervision and guidance are conducted in English, as
well as dissertations, reports, examinations and presentations by
To be considered for the Saitama University MEXT Scholarship, you must:
路 Have or expect to
have a Master鈥檚 Degree before enrollment.
路 Be a national
of a country that has diplomatic relations with the Japanese Government.
路 Be under 35 years
of age as of April 1st, 2025. (i.e. born on or after April 2nd, 1990).
路 Have excellent
academic achievements.
路 Have a proof of
one鈥檚 English language proficiency, such as an indicative minimum score of
English language proficiency test taken within the past 2 years. (i.e. 72 for
TOEFL (IBT)/5.5 for IELTS or equivalent to CEFR B2 Level).
路 Be in both good
mental and physical health.
路 Be residing
outside Japan at the time of application and not a holder of Japanese
nationality.
路 Be able to arrive
in Japan on a date designated by Saitama University in the end of September
2025.

Not
an awardee of the Japanese Government Scholarship during the last three years
The MEXT scholarship covers
路 application, admission
and tuition fees,
路
a
monthly allowance of 145,000yen plus a supplemental regional allowance of
3,000yen per month.
Also, Round-trip airfare from the awardee鈥檚 home country is provided.
The MEXT scholarship is granted for up to three years based on the
satisfactory performance of the Doctoral student, not extendable beyond three
years.
To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

Certificate of Grades from most recent academic institution attended
(Undergraduate or Graduate degree program)

Certificate of Graduation or Expected Graduation from most recent academic
institution attended (Graduate degree program)
路 Abstract of thesis
written for most recent academic degree awarded.
路 Copy of passport
page containing the applicant鈥檚 name and date of birth or a copy of your family
register or residence certificate
路 Certificate of
English Proficiency (an official score of TOEFL or IELTS or equivalent) (MUST
be the original or attested copies of the original. The score must be taken
within the past 2 years.
o If the applicant鈥檚
most recent graduated course was instructed in English, it can be an official
letter to prove that medium language of instruction was English instead of
English Proficiency test Certificate.)

documents to the Foreign Student Office before the deadline. Firstly, by
emai(rese@gr.saitama-u.ac.jp), then by International Postal Services such as
EMS.
路 Evaluation of
applications will be based on the candidate鈥檚 scholastic ability and research
potential assessed from previous credentials, recommendation letters and essays
on specific topics.
路 During the
selection process, short-listed candidates will be contacted through
internet-based interviews or other appropriate means. Details for these
interviews will be sent out to short-listed candidates. A mathematics exam
could be held depending on the supervisor鈥檚 demand.

For
the selection of the MEXT scholarship, after University selection procedure,
the lists of nominees are sent to the MEXT Office for final approval.
